In a few lines, from your point of view and based on what you have gathered so far, what are the main developments that you think could be presented at BTO11? So, an invitation for the audience to take part.
Successful examples and experiences of development within the territory that have tourism as a fundamental component. Areas of post-industrial regeneration, connections between public and private, innovative business models that demonstrate the need to exit the Italian “comfort zone” and take on new projects.

In your workgroup, what do you deal with specifically?
I am involved in many fields and studies: training, research, connection and integration between the various subjects within the system, applied research and studying certain phenomena (digitisation, AI, knocking down borders, new citizenship) that are revolutionising tourism.

Destination, Digital Strategy, Food and Wine Tourism and Hospitality – the main topics of BTO11. Your contribution will be incorporated into the scientific programming schedule. The underlying theme is SMART. Can you help us to break this down from your perspective and with regards to the theme you are handling?
My role is to facilitate the transition to tourism as an “grownup” phenomenon able to sit around the tables at which the policies regarding planning and territorial development are decided, not being an impromptu phenomenon comprised solely of fairs, education and communication.
This type of tourism would change the geography of local development starting from mapping the experiences enjoyed by tourists within the territories and then setting up innovative systems of governance. The transition from “attractions” to “experiences” increasingly implies working towards three directions within the destinations.
Designing infrastructures in a way that is innovative and suited to the territories for the new disciplines and experiences to be enjoyed.
To exhilarate – it is important to shift the focus from the multiple activities that are carried out towards the pleasures that can be created.
Finally, develop operator skills so that the “service providers” or “attraction managers” may become entrepreneurs in an evolved relationship with the market and other stakeholders.
