Andrea Cusumano

Councillor for activities and heritage of the City of Palermo, Italian capital of culture 2018

Andrea Cusumano was born on 14 January 1973. He is an academic, film director, playwright, painter, sculptor, performer, orchestra conductor and set designer. His research, which is very heterogeneous and crosses the borders between various disciplines, ranges from formal experimentation with pictorial media, sculpture, environmental installations, Live Art and complex theatre performances that are more often than not site-specific.

His work has been exhibited and represented in various prestigious international venues and festivals in Europe, India and the USA.

He is a lecturer at Goldsmiths College-University of London and External Examiner at the American University of Athens and at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

He is the artistic director of CeSDAS (Centre of Experimentation for Space Applied Dramaturgy), where he fulfilled several didactic and dramaturgy projects in collaboration with important international institutions, including the Krakow Cricoteka, the DEA of Edinburgh, the Orestiadi di Gibellina Foundation, the University of Washington and the Prague Quadrennial.
